The Phoenix metro, spanning Phoenix proper, Scottsdale and Mesa, has one of the densest concentrations of pickleball facilities in the country. Here are five real, confirmed places to play across that sprawl.
Indoor & Dedicated Clubs
Arizona Athletic Grounds, in Mesa, is one of the largest pickleball facilities in the country: 41 outdoor courts plus 12 indoor courts, including a covered championship court with grandstand seating that has hosted professional PPA and APP Tour events. It's open to both members and non-members on a pay-to-play basis.
Center Court Pickleball Club, in Scottsdale, is a dedicated luxury indoor facility with 12 climate-controlled courts, a pro shop and a full events calendar.
The Picklr, the same national indoor franchise covered in our Austin guide, runs several Valley locations with climate-controlled courts, structured leagues and clinics — worth checking whichever location is closest given how spread out the metro is.
The Phoenix metro doesn't really have an off-season for outdoor play the way colder cities do — it has an off-time-of-day instead, and that shapes when every court on this list actually fills up.
Free Public Courts
Pecos Park, in south Phoenix, is one of the largest free public pickleball facilities in the East Valley: 16 dedicated outdoor courts, plus additional shared courts on the adjacent tennis courts, all lit, with restrooms and water on site. Encanto Park, in central Phoenix, offers eight free public outdoor courts in a long-standing city park setting. Both are run by the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, whose parks listings keep the fullest, most current map of public courts across the city.
What to Know Before You Go
Summer heat pushes most outdoor play here to early morning or after sunset for several months of the year — that's the single biggest scheduling factor in this metro, more than any court's specific hours. Free public courts don't rent paddles, so bring your own; indoor clubs generally do. If you're new to the sport, our beginner gear guide covers what to bring before your first session.
